ED HOUSE / NILO / 2021 - 2024 / UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Situated at 390 meters above sea level in the heart of a tropical dry forest reserve, this vacation house lies north of the Upper Magdalena River Valley. The site is abundant with diverse fauna and flora, including over 165 bird species, ocelots, deer, armadillos, foxes among others.
Perched between giant rocks and overlooking spectacular views of both the near and distant forest, the design is carefully integrated into the steep terrain. A single, long wing extends along the contour lines, covered by a simple pitched roof spanning roughly 37 meters, made of insulated zinc and aluminum-coated steel panels. Thick walls of white-rendered burnt brick provide cooling thermal mass, shielded from direct sunlight. Exposed white metallic structural elements harmonize with the fresh matte travertine marble floors and open-grained wooden furniture, creating a cohesive interior aesthetic.
The main level has two primary bedrooms and a living area that opens onto a viewing terrace with a swimming pool and spa. The sloping terrain allows for an additional level beneath the terrace, containing two more bedrooms. Fresh air and natural light fill the interiors through large openings and skylights, ensuring that each space offers privacy and a distinct character, all while maintaining the connection with the surrounding forest. The design aims to blend seamlessly with the natural paradise, respecting and enhancing its unique environment.
